Mining & Processing
A selective, gemstone-focused processing concept for the Menzies Emerald Project.
Mining & Processing Concept
The Project is currently on care and maintenance. The concept below outlines how emerald-bearing material would be excavated, processed and recovered as the Project advances through exploration and bulk sampling.
Selective Excavation
Emerald-bearing mica schist and pegmatite material would be selectively excavated and handled separately from surrounding waste material, with mining focused on identified mineralised shoots and zones.
Primary Processing
Excavated material would be progressively washed, crushed and screened to achieve appropriate size fractions before entering downstream sorting and recovery stages.
Rehabilitation
Disturbed areas would be progressively rehabilitated as project activities advance, with waste and non-mineralised material managed in accordance with applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
Conceptual Processing & Sorting Flow
Excavation & Material Handling
Selective excavation and transport of emerald-bearing material to the processing area.
Washing & Primary Size Reduction
Removal of clay and fines, followed by crushing where required.
Screening & Size Classification
Material separated into suitable size fractions for downstream recovery.
Optical Sorting & Manual Recovery
Optical sorting technology to identify emerald-bearing material, supported by manual recovery of larger crystals where appropriate.
Product Sorting & Grading
Recovered emeralds sorted and classified for gemmological evaluation, valuation and potential sale.
Processing, Power & Camp Upgrade Strategy
Processing Infrastructure Upgrade
- Installation of the proposed optical sorting system
- Upgrade of existing washing, screening and material-handling infrastructure
- Integration of conveyors, electrical systems and ancillary plant equipment
- Installation and commissioning expected to be concentrated in the first year after listing
Power & Infrastructure
- Proposed solar power system to improve site energy efficiency and reduce diesel reliance
- Additional camp accommodation to support expanded site-based personnel
- Upgrade of existing site amenities, electrical systems and support infrastructure
Approvals & Compliance
Future mining and processing activities will be subject to the required environmental, safety and operational approvals from Western Australian authorities. The concept above is indicative and will be refined as exploration, bulk sampling and metallurgical test work progress.
